Scanning Articles or Chapters

Linking to Articles from Full Text Databases in HuskyCT

Linking to articles and ebooks is much easier than doing your own scans. Click on the ‘Linking to Electronic Materials‘ link for directions on how to share journal articles. If we do not have electronic access to the material you wish to use it may be possible for you to scan it. Please see scanning instructions below.

Putting a scan of an article or book chapter in HuskyCT from material owned by the Library

  • Determine if your selection complies with copyright and fair use.  The Copyright@UConn Library page has more in depth copyright information.
  • Scan your selection and upload it to your HuskyCT course site. Include the title page and the page with the copyright symbol.
  • Please remember, the initial quality of the paper image is the largest determinant in the quality of the final product!
  • Scan on Demand may be used to scan chapters for course assignments from materials owned by the Library. Instructors are responsible for compliance with copyright.
  • Once you have created/obtained the scan you can upload the file to your HuskyCT course site. This Blackboard Help page has a section on How to Create an Item (i.e. upload a file/scan).

Putting a scanned article or book chapter in HuskyCT from personally owned material

  • Personal copies must be owned in their original format, i.e. you own a legal copy of a book or are a subscriber to the journal. Possession of a photocopy or PDF obtained through interlibrary loan or other means does not constitute ownership in the original format.
  • Determine if your selection complies with copyright and fair use.  The Copyright @UConn Library page has more in depth copyright information.
  • Scan your selection and upload it to your HuskyCT course site. Include the title page and the page with the copyright symbol.
  • Please remember, the initial quality of the paper image is the largest determinant in the quality of the final product!
  • Once you have created the scan you can upload the file to your HuskyCT course site. This Blackboard Help page has a section on How to Create an Item (i.e. upload a file/scan).

Putting material in HuskyCT not owned by you or the Library

  • Student papers placed on HuskyCT must be accompanied by a signed release form.
  • Selections borrowed or photocopied by you from another Library’s holdings or from a colleague cannot be placed on HuskyCT unless permission from the publisher is obtained or copyright fees are paid. You may make a course reserve request for the Library to try to obtain the item for you. (See Course Reserves(uconn.edu).)
  • Course anthologies cannot be placed on HuskyCT due to copyright restrictions.
  • Once you have determined if you can use the material, upload the file to your HuskyCT course site. This Blackboard Help page has a section on How to Create an Item (i.e. upload a file/scan).
