Zine Collections

Zines are a low barrier form of communication that stem from one of the earliest kinds of a social media, the distribution of underground printed pamphlets.  Zines are intentionally low-fi and deeply personal, often demonstrating political or radical ideas of the self, one's culture and community, and an opportunity to see one's own writing in a consumable print medium.  Demonstrated here from a radical abolitionist pamphlets of the American Colonial and Progressive Era periods through the 20th century of xerox photocopy printing, zines offer a narrative window into subculture and social movement history.
