Introduction
The State of Connecticut, UConn Library is seeking applications for a Buildings & Grounds Patrol Officer to join a dedicated team that serves and supports the UConn community in its use of Library facilities and services at the Storrs campus. The State of Connecticut, University of Connecticut Library Buildings & Grounds Officer is under the general direction and reports to the Head of Facilities & Security, the Buildings & Grounds Officer will enforce the facilities and environmental policies of the UConn Library as mandated by the Library Administration to maintain an environment that is conducive to an academic setting. The incumbent is responsible for being familiar with the University of Connecticut regulations and Connecticut State Laws to maintain a degree of safety in the Homer Babbidge Library.
This position is categorized as Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff. The individual in this role must be willing to work during emergency closures/delayed openings due to inclement weather or for significant events that affect campus operations. Applicants must also be willing to respond to emergencies on overtime (nights, weekends, holidays). The schedule for this position is listed below, with an hourly rate of $23.88, which is non-negotiable. Please note, that effective June 28, 2024, the hourly rate is increasing to $24.48.

Examples of Duties
- Enforce regulations relating to control of state property.
- Assist library patrons and the general public.
- Guard entrances and exits to prevent trespass, vandalism, theft, and other violations.
- Perform routine patrol of the library; check mechanical systems, monitor alarm systems, and report troubles to the appropriate departments.
- Perform opening and closing procedures which may include Dodd Building, the Music and Dramatic Arts Library, and the Pharmacy Library. Checking mechanical systems, monitoring alarm systems, reporting troubles to the appropriate departments, and securing all interior and exterior doors.
- Enforce library policies related to eating and drinking, smoking, disruptive behavior, and use of classrooms and library space as well as the University’s student code of conduct.
- Write accurate incident reports and maintain security logs.
- May assist Police and Fire Departments in emergencies such as building evacuations, suspect searches, and medical emergencies.
- Maintain the Library’s lost and found.
- Provide escorts for staff and student workers as needed.
- Provide first aid when necessary.
- Perform dispatching and record-keeping functions at a desk port.
- Sign for and receive deliveries in the absence of the Mail Services Coordinator.

Special Requirements
- Appointment to positions within the Connecticut Marketing Authority will be in accordance with Section 22-63a(d) of the Connecticut General Statutes.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to obtain and maintain a Standard First Aid Certificate and/or CPR certification.
Physical Requirements
- Incumbents in this class must have general good health, be free from any disease or injury which would impair health or usefulness and possess and retain sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility, endurance and visual and auditory acuity required to perform all the duties of the class.

The UConn Library seeks three collaborative and proactive librarians to serve as Research Services Librarians in natural, environmental, and life sciences; health sciences; and psychological and health sciences subject areas. Reporting to the Head of Research Services, Research Services Librarians connect UConn Library collections and services to UConn students, faculty, and staff in support of research, scholarship, teaching, and learning. - Serves as Research Services Librarian as described below:
- The natural, environmental, and life sciences position will serve as liaison to Animal Science, Natural Resources and the Environment, Pathobiology and Veterinary Science, Environmental Sciences, Extension, biology programs such as Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and associated subject areas.
- The health sciences position will serve as liaison to Nursing, Allied Health Sciences, and associated subject areas.
- The psychological and health sciences position will serve as liaison to Psychological Sciences, Kinesiology, and associated subject areas.
- Engages in outreach with students and faculty to align and integrate the UConn Library into curricular efforts.
- Designs and teaches instructional sessions for subject-based information literacy and writing classes.
- Consults and instructs on evidence synthesis and systematic reviews.
- Incorporates principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice into services and collections related to the position.
- Engages in collections across their lifecycle, including development, management, and assessment.
