What is a proxy account?
An EZproxy account allows access to the Library’s electronic resources subscriptions, e.g., Journals, eBooks, and Databases from off campus sites and from the UConnHealth-Guest WiFi when on campus.
Who is eligible for an EZproxy account?
Unfortunately, our licensing agreements with publishers limit who is eligible for this service. We would be held liable for licensing violations if we were to expand remote access beyond these strict guidelines.
Questions about eligibility? Contact the Information Desk at libinfodesk@uchc.edu or (860) 679-3808.
How do I get an EZproxy account?
UConn Health faculty, staff or students with a network logon do not need to register an an account. Use your network username and password to login.
If you do not have a UConn Health network logon and are eligible for this service, use the Register for off campus access form to request an account. After submitting the form, you will receive an email with a barcode number and password.
Please allow at least three business days to set up your account. Questions? Contact the Information Desk at libinfodesk@uchc.edu or (860) 679-3808.
Do I need to use a specific browser?
Any browser should work but if you are experiencing issues, we recommend you try another browser.
Do I have to log in every time I want to access resources?
- If you exit your browser or shutdown your computer at any time you will be asked to log in again.
- Sessions will last for approximately two hours before you must login again.
I click on a Library resource but the proxy box doesn’t appear.
- The resource must be accessed from the Library’s website: https://lib.uconn.edu/health/
- It must be a resource that the library subscribes to – not all resources on the Library’s website are subscriptions.
- For example, if you click a subscribed full-text article, the proxy box will appear.
- You will not be asked to login again as long as you do not close your browser window.
What do I do if I get a message saying that my proxy login was invalid or incorrect?
If you use a UConn Health network logon
- This is the same username/password used to access email or log into a computer on the UConn Health network.
- Try to access another UConn Health resource such as email at http://outlook.com/owa/uchc.edu to test the username/password.
- If you copy and paste your username/password from a document, be sure to only select the characters that make up your username/password. Spaces before or after the characters in your password will cause it to be invalid.
If you use a barcode
- Your login is a 14-digit library barcode number (without spaces) and your password (lower case).
- If you just registered for the proxy account, please allow at least three business days to activate your account.
- Make sure your library registration is up to date and you are using your current barcode.
- Confirm the spelling of your last name, including any spaces, hyphens, etc.
- If you copy and paste your barcode/password from a document, be sure to only select the characters that make up your username/password. Spaces before or after the characters in your password will cause it to be invalid.
Still having trouble with your barcode/password? Contact the Information Desk at libinfodesk@uchc.edu or (860) 679-3808.
Can I access the Library’s subscribed resources without having to start at the Library’s website?
Yes. To create a bookmark instead of accessing a resource through the Library website, the proxy prefix must be added to the resource’s URL. The prefix that triggers the proxy logon page is: https://online.uchc.edu/login?url=
For example:
The URL for PubMed is: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?otool=uchclib
Add the proxy prefix to the URL like this: https://online.uchc.edu/login?url=https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?otool=uchclib
