UConn Health Sciences Library Support

The library is open with limited hours and services.
Our guiding principle is to support students and faculty and protect the health of our community. We are able to offer limited in person services as well as online service. We will continue to be flexible and in constant review of how to best serve you and we welcome your feedback.


Hours and Visitors

The library will be open for limited hours: Monday – Friday, 7am – 5pm.
Shafer Study Rooms are available 24/7 via badge access for UConn Health medical and dental students.

To safeguard the health of our patrons and library staff, only visitors with UConn Health IDs will be permitted in the library.

Visitors must wear a mask at all times.
Hand sanitizer and wipes are available at the entrance to the library.
Each patron is responsible for wiping down their area before use.

Visitors will have access to the main floor of the library, down to the Self-Service room. Items from other areas of the library may be requested online (see Services below) and picked up at the Information desk. Visitors will not be permitted to browse the book or journal stacks.

UConn Health Staff, Students and Faculty – Research and Instructional Services (RIS) staff will continue to provide research support and reference services virtually. If additional consultation or instructions are required, please contact the Information Desk at 860-679-3808 for a referral to RIS staff.

Consumer Health Services – RIS librarians will continue to provide virtual reference and research services to patients, family members, state public libraries, and residents of Connecticut.


Interlibrary Loan (ILL):

Services are open. Borrow online or email

Interlibrary Loans (ILLs) may be returned via the book drop located by the elevators outside the library.

*There may be delays due to reduced services at outside libraries.


Requesting Items and Borrowing:

Visitors will not be permitted to browse the book or journal stacks.
To limit your time in the library, items may be requested ahead of time and picked up at the Information Desk.
The library provides tutorials on how to virtually locate our physical items and place a hold (request) for those items.

Books may be returned via the book drop located by the elevators outside the library.

Please note, returned books, journals and AVs will be quarantined for three (3) days before being eligible to circulate again. Course reserves will be sanitized between each use and may be used only in the library.

Journal Article Scan Request for UConn Health Staff and Students:

For UConn Health staff and students only, use Interlibrary Loan to request a scanned copy of an article from a journal whether the library owns a copy or not. For more information go to:
