julia brooker thompsonThe library at the University of Connecticut Torrington Campus is named for Julia Brooker Thompson, a key figure in the beginnings of the University in the city of Torrington.

Julia Brooker Thompson was the only child of Major Albert F Brooker and Alice M. Cooper and the widow of Dr. Austin C. Thompson. She died on December 1, 1960 at the age of 84, leaving the bulk of her estate to the University of Connecticut for the establishment of a branch campus in the city of Torrington. The bequest was the largest individual gift ever given to the University at that time and made the construction of the campus possible.
