Class of 1958 50th Anniversary Class Gift Campaign

Sonny and Bob Googins '58 - Co-chairs

Al Hutensky '58 - Committee Member

Dear Classmates:

The Class of 1958 50th Reunion celebration will be here shortly, and we hope you have considered coming back to Storrs for this special occasion.  Full information can be found on the reunion website.

As your 1958 classmates, it is our distinct pleasure to serve as co-chairs of the leadership gift giving committee. Won't you please join us for this once in a lifetime opportunity?

Given the significance of the occasion, we have proposed that the Class of 1958 create two special funds, one supporting the Homer Babbidge Library and one supporting the Alumni Association. The first fund will enable the creation and furnishing of The Class of 1958 Study Lounge in the Library's new Learning Commons area while The 50th Reunion Alumni Scholarship Fund will provide financial support to deserving students of all categories.

learningcommons2The Class of 1958 Study Lounge will be a named space in a revolutionary new area of the main library that allows students and groups to easily collaborate, learn interactively and complete their academic work using the latest technology.  In today’s fast paced learning environment, students are asked to take a more active role in their education.  The Learning Commons is an integrated learning environment that brings together all the required tools and support services:  computer workstations, printers and scanners, research databases, academic software, collaborative work spaces, social areas and on demand tutoring assistance. For more information and photographs, please visit the Learning Commons webpage.

The 50th Reunion Alumni Scholarship Fund will be the first scholarship of its kind to provide monetary support to all categories of UConn students. Keeping the criteria general will enable the University to assist undergraduate, graduate, and prospective students on both a need or merit basis. Additionally, it will allow UConn the option to provide orientation or study abroad scholarships as appropriate.

Our goal is to raise $100,000 from the Class of 1958, with $50,000 funding each special class project. All leadership level gifts to the study lounge will be annotated on a donor plaque in a place of honor in the library. All leadership level gifts to the scholarship fund will be recognized at the Alumni Association's scholarship ceremony, with donors listed in the FY2009 program at the scholarship ceremony, recognized in MemberExtra (our members only publication) and a representative from the class can award the scholarship during the ceremony.

With your involvment, we are confident that our class will have a successful reunion and achieve its goal of providing funds that will enhance our University's library and provide financial assistance to worthy students. We ask that you join us in making a leadership gift commitment to the campaign.  We thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,
