Perspectives on Human Rights

Tikvah, the Hebrew word for "hope", is the concept uniting the images and commentary that comprise this exhibition - a part of the University's year-long exploration of aspects of human rights in connection with the dedication of the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center. Forty-three distinguished contemporary American children's book illustrators have contributed an original work of art illustrating their response to the idea of "human rights", along with a brief commentary on the theme. When the exhibition has concluded, these images and words will be brought together in a published volume, in a limited and a trade edition, both intended for an adult audience. The participation of children's book illustrators in this project acknowledges the fundamental relationship between the preservation of human rights and the hope that future generations of children will be able to enjoy the works created for them by today's artists.
